I knew I would miss him. I expected his empty room, the quieter house, and that strange feeling of having one less person at the dinner table.

But I didn’t expect how much I would miss hearing his voice every day.

We text regularly, and I’m happy about that, but texting isn’t the same as hearing his voice and having those ordinary day-to-day conversations.

I know we could talk more than once a week, but I also know he needs the space to find his independence. And he’s never been one for long phone conversations anyway.

So for now, I’ll take the quick texts and our weekly conversations. It’s okay. It’s just different. And I’m learning how to be his mom from a little farther away now. 🥹🩷

Obviously, I’m not this dramatic… although sometimes I think my family might disagree. 😂

Sending your son off to college is such a strange mix of emotions. Joy and sadness. Excitement and heartache. Pride in watching him begin this new chapter… and “momoncholy,” as I’ve heard it called. That pretty much sums it up.

Tomorrow is our drop-off day. I’ve already gotten teary-eyed more than a few times, but tonight, we’re going out to celebrate.

Because even with all the emotions, this is absolutely a celebration.

Cheers to an amazing four years ahead… and hugs to all the mamas feeling every possible emotion right now. I see you. I am you. 🥹🩷

These next 10 days are going to go by so fast. I know he’s ready, but I’m trying to hold on to every moment for as long as I can.

I know this is exactly what we’ve been preparing him for. I’m incredibly proud of the young man he’s become and so excited for everything ahead of him. He’s going to have a blast!

But I’m still learning how to be the mom he needs in this next chapter. So… son, be patient with me. I’ve never done this part before. 🥹🩷
