As we get older, one of the biggest challenges we face with makeup is keeping it from settling into fine lines and creasing under the eyes. Nobody wants a cakey look, especially when we’re aiming for a youthful glow!
In this post, I’ll share three simple tips that will help you keep your makeup looking smooth and flawless all day long. These tips are specifically designed for women over 50, but they work for anyone looking to enhance their makeup game.
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
The first and most important step to preventing caking or creasing is keeping the under-eye area hydrated. Dry skin is one of the main culprits of makeup settling into fine lines. When you apply makeup on a well-hydrated surface, it goes on smoother and blends seamlessly with your skin.
Two of my favorite hydration products are the BALM from Seint Beauty and ROC Multi-Correxion Revive + Glow Stick. Both of these products are lightweight, easy to apply, and perfect for prepping the delicate under-eye area for makeup.
2. Use Creams Instead of Liquids or Powders
When it comes to makeup for mature skin, creams are your best friend! Cream products become one with your skin, allowing your natural warmth to melt them in for a smooth, flawless finish. Unlike powders or liquid formulas, creams won’t sit on top of your skin or exaggerate fine lines. Instead, they give a soft, dewy finish that looks youthful and radiant.
I always recommend sticking with cream-based products for the under-eye area because they’re more forgiving and tend to look more natural throughout the day.
3. Press with a Beauty Sponge
Once you’ve applied your cream-based makeup, use a damp beauty sponge to press the product into your skin. This step not only helps the product blend into the skin but also removes any excess makeup that might cause caking later on. Gently bouncing the sponge under your eye ensures that everything stays in place and your makeup looks fresh.
