Hydration Hacks for Dry Winter Skin

Winter can be super harsh on our skin, leaving it feeling dull, dry, and dehydrated. The cold air outside and heated air inside strip our skin of its natural moisture, leading to a parched complexion that feels anything but radiant.

As we age, our skin naturally becomes drier, thinner, and less radiant due to a decline in collagen production and the skin’s ability to retain moisture. This can make winter’s effects even more noticeable, leaving mature skin looking drab, dull, and in desperate need of hydration.

If you’re tired of battling flaky, irritated skin every winter, I’ve got you covered! These easy hydration hacks will eliminate dryness and help you get your glow back. Let’s dive in!

1. Moisturize Daily

This may seem obvious, but moisturizing daily is non-negotiable, even if you have oily skin. A good moisturizer not only hydrates but also acts as a protective barrier, sealing in moisture and shielding your skin from harsh environmental factors.

My favorite moisturizer is from Oliveda. It’s waterless and instead uses hydroxytyrosol, a powerful antioxidant derived from olive trees, to deeply nourish and hydrate the skin. This unique formula provides intense moisture without relying on water as a filler. Click here to learn more about Oliveda and why I made the switch to waterless skincare.

No matter which moisturizer you choose, for best results, apply it to damp skin immediately after cleansing to lock in hydration. And make sure to let your moisturizer completely soak into the skin for at least five minutes. before applying your makeup.

2. Use a Hydrating Primer

A hydrating primer preps your skin for makeup while providing an added boost of moisture. My personal favorite is the Plush Prep Mist. This multi-functional, caffeine-infused mist primes, sets, and refreshes your complexion. Enriched with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and botanical extracts, it deeply moisturizes and balances your skin, giving you a refreshed glow with every spray. It’s like a spa in a bottle and a must-have for winter!

3. Lock in Moisture Under the Eyes

The delicate skin under your eyes is often the first to show signs of dryness, which can cause caking and creasing when applying makeup. To combat this, use Seint Balm to lock in moisture. This luxurious balm hydrates and smooths the under-eye area, creating the perfect base for concealer and preventing that dreaded creased look.

4. Switch to Cream Makeup

Using cream makeup can make a HUGE difference for dry winter skin. Unlike liquid and powder formulas that often contain alcohol and other drying ingredients, cream makeup is naturally hydrating. It blends seamlessly into the skin, providing coverage without accentuating dry patches or fine lines. It’s like a drink of water for your skin in makeup form.

The cream makeup I use is called Seint. It’s a lightweight, hydrating, and easy-to-use makeup that enhances your natural features without settling into fine lines or wrinkles. If you're interested in a customizable, refillable makeup palette like mine, click here to get a free expert shade match!

5. Spray Your Brush with Setting Spray

When blending cream makeup, spray your brush with a hydrating setting spray first. This not only makes blending easier but also helps lock in hydration. The setting spray adds a layer of moisture and ensures your makeup stays dewy and fresh all day. It’s a game-changer for achieving a flawless, glowing look in winter.

6. Add Bronzer + Illuminator

Winter skin can often look dull and drab, so adding warmth and dimension is key. A cream bronzer adds a sun-kissed glow, while an illuminator gives a luminous, dewy finish. Together, they breathe life back into your complexion, making your skin look vibrant and healthy even on the coldest days.

7. Swap Chapstick for Lip Oil

Chapstick can sometimes sit on top of the lips without truly nourishing them. Instead, opt for a lip oil. Lip oils are specially designed to deeply hydrate and repair your lips. Look for ones infused with jojoba seed and shea butter for maximum moisture. Bonus: they leave a radiant shine that looks as good as it feels.

8. Use a Hydrating Setting Spray

To seal in all your hard work, finish with a hydrating setting spray. It locks your makeup in place while keeping your skin moisturized throughout the day. Look for sprays that contain ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid to keep your skin feeling plump and hydrated.

Bring It All Together

By incorporating these hydration hacks into your winter skincare and makeup routine, you’ll be able to combat the harsh effects of the season and keep your skin glowing and moisturized. Hydrated skin isn’t just about feeling good - it’s the foundation for smooth, flawless makeup and a radiant complexion.
