Things I Wish I Knew Sooner About Makeup

Kellye

If you’re like me, you might have felt overwhelmed or even intimidated by makeup over the years. I didn’t start using cream makeup until I was 48, and looking back, I really wish I’d started much sooner. The difference it has made in how my skin looks and feels is incredible.

Here are some things I’ve learned along the way that I wish someone had told me years ago:

1. Cream Makeup is a Game Changer

I used to rely on liquid and powder foundations, not realizing how much they were working against my skin instead of with it. Cream makeup, on the other hand, is hydrating (because it’s alcohol-free), moves with your face like a second skin, and creates a beautiful, three-dimensional look that accentuates your natural features. Plus, it gives you a noticeable glow—something my dull, mature skin was seriously lacking.

If I had known how much better creams perform compared to liquids and powders, I would’ve switched in a heartbeat.

2. Bold Cheek Colors Are More Youthful

For years, I thought subtle, barely-there blushes were the way to go. I couldn’t have been more wrong. As we get older, our skin can become dull and drab. Bold cheek colors bring back that youthful vibrance and instantly brighten your face. Don’t be afraid to go for richer tones; they’ll make all the difference.

Seint has a variety of bold lip + cheek colors. This is a semi-gloss called Over the Rainbow.

3. Bronzer Adds Warmth and Dimension

I didn’t even know what bronzer was for the longest time! Once I started using it, though, I realized how much warmth and dimension it adds to mature skin. It’s like a secret weapon for achieving a natural, healthy glow year-round. If you’re not using bronzer yet, now is the time to start. Trust me—you’ll thank yourself later.

4. It’s Easier Than You Think

I always thought I wasn’t good at makeup. The idea of applying a three-dimensional foundation seemed complicated, but it turns out it’s practically paint by numbers. Cream makeup makes it so simple to enhance your features, and blending it is almost foolproof. The hardest part? Remembering to put on mascara. (Yes, I’ve forgotten it more than once! 🤦‍♀️😂)

Don't wait!

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone hesitant about switching to cream makeup, it would be this: Don’t wait. I made the mistake of waiting far too long, and I regret it. Cream makeup is easy, it’s beautiful, and it makes a huge difference in how you look and feel.
